Sorrow

A friend of mine has not been in church for a while. I called him to see if he is sick only to hear the worst news: He is excommunicated and says he is not ashamed for what he has done. If he who's conversion to Orthodoxy was accompanied by miracles and who's faith seemed unshakeable can be decived by heretics and a prideful heart, am I safe?

Matt,
**NONE** of us can be complacent about being spiritually safe in this life.
Not even the greatest of saints, who all practiced prayer and vigilance upto and including their dying breath.
Just look at the icon of the Ladder of Divine Ascent.........

Satan is a ravening wolf, seeking to destroy those who follow Christ.

I am sorry for your friend, and I grieve for your sorrow.
Keep praying, that his vision will clear and his heart will be softened and he will come back to the Truth, as he is currently "dazzled by destroying heresies"

Yeah, that ravening wolf stuff. Sometimes I forget.
