Nematodes, Tomatoes, and Hornworms

The good news is that the nematodes worked!  All the grubs are dead and the tomato plants are producing again. Cucumber and squash are recovering, too. We are very pleased.

The bad news is we now have tomato hornworms.  Kathleen has recruited neighborhood kids into an anti-hornworm task force.

It's been ages since I had hornworms. I remember when we had chickens, we would take the hornworms off the plants and throw them in the chicken yard, where they were more than welcome. But how to carry them? Who wants to touch those evil beasts? I recall using a clothespin to grab the worm, and carry it as with tongs, but it was tricky, trying not to let the clothespin close all the way.... otherwise, you'd have ... a mess. :-(

When we moved away from our chickens and had a swimming pool, we often found hornworms in the pool, which was a mystery. Did they go down for a drink, and die of the chlorine?
