Something I never thought I'd see
Lately, I have encountered an Orthodox Christian who is a Marxist. I am still trying to wrap my head around it. Given what the Church teaches about the nature of sin and it's effect on people, given the suffering Marxism has caused in the world, given the forces of devastation Marxism unleashed on the Church, I am totally amazed that an Orthodox Christian would publicly espouse ideas even remotely similar to state-imposed socialism. Charitably, I see that he is someone who seems to be genuinely concerned for the poor, and he does not seem to think he deserves more out of life than he has. Marxists are usually people who care not one iota for the poor and are only concerned with their own comfort. It is very strange that this man of whom I write holds these conflicting views so easily.
