One of the things that I find so exciting about the New Urbanist movement is the possibility of reviving the ancient norms of city life: Walkability, density, nearby agriculture. Tonight I came across a website that deals specifically with questions such as how to bring the lessons of
ancient Byzantine city building into the modern world. And I think I might have found a new hero in one
Besim S. Hakim. I think I need to write to him and see if he'll let me work for him when I finish grad school.
